Six Life Saving Beauty Hacks For New Moms

Multitasking becomes synonymous with the way new moms function. As our priorities undergo a major overhaul, personal care gets relegated to the back-burner. However we do need to look good and presentable to the world, right? And, no, tracks and tees and messy hair in a bun are NOT kosher  day in and day out. As a mom, I have seen it all and so I thought I’d share some lifesaving beauty hacks that have saved the day for me on many an occasion. So here goes:

Beauty Hacks For New Moms

A pinch of baking soda…

Home Remedy for pigmentation

I swore by it! Long hours of sleepless nights made my skin look dull and my under eye circles would have given a raccoon a run for its money. My go-to beauty hack for dark circles and other skin woes? Baking soda- I promise it won’t let you down. Mix a teaspoonful with your shampoo to get cleaner, shinier hair. Add it to your foot scrub for buttery soft feet and say ta ta to those nasty calluses. Blend some lemon juice and olive oil with 1-2 teaspoons of baking soda and gently massage this paste on your face. Rinse after 10 minutes to lighten under eye circles, dark patches, and dull skin. It is one of the best beauty hacks. And you’re ready to take on the world!

Embrace the goodness of Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil

Use it as a cleanser, massage cream and massage your feet, hair, and skin, while overseeing some baby chores. Coconut oil is your complete beauty solution as it cleans, nourishes and moisturizes the skin. It contributes to the regeneration of damaged skin cells post delivery and lightens marks and patches.

Sleep with the baby

Yes, sleep with the baby. Try not to engage yourself in household chores when the baby sleeps- the laundry really can wait while you nap! Catch up on your sleep while your baby is taking a nap- it’s called beauty sleep for a reason.

Make the most of your 10-second shower

organic cleansing body wash

A long relaxing bath may seem like a distant luxury with a new baby in your life but you can make the most of bath time- limited as it may be. Look for double duty products that do your multitasking for you. A body wash for women that gently cleanses the skin, with essential oils that soothe and rejuvenate you is just what the doctor ordered. And yes, do look for moisturizing elements to restore the natural oils post bathing.

Make Shea Butter your new BFF

Shea Butter

Use shea butter lotions and creams that provide intense, therapeutic nourishing to restore your skin’s stripped away moisture levels and retain the glow. If your moisturizing cream is effective, a quick massage twice a day, even while cradling the baby, will suffice.

Take your grandma’s advice: Watch what you eat!

Eat right

Munch on nuts like cashews, almonds, peanuts and other healthy varieties to restore healthy fats to the body. Eat plenty of fruits, drink loads of water and fresh fruit juices to maintain the natural glow of the skin. If there is time, mash up a seasonal fruit and apply it on your face. Rinse off in ten minutes.

Once you become a mom, life will never quite be the same again. Time will always be short and the children will be your all encompassing priority. But do not lose yourselves, ladies. Grab those little moments to yourself and embrace these beauty hacks to get that glow back!
